In this article, we'll learn how to export and back up your cards. You might find this feature useful when you want to share your carefully created deck with your friends who use a different app (it's never too late to invite them to AnkiPro, though!). Backing up your deck will also guarantee you'll never lose your cards and progress, no matter what happens.
Exporting your decks
To export a deck, you simply need to choose the necessary deck and open its Settings. Select Export deck among the available options.
You will be presented with two format options: CSV and OFC. Choose CSV so that your cards can be exported in an Excel document.
After your cards are processed and ready to be saved, you will get a standard pop-up to your default Files app. Just choose the necessary folder on your device and Save it. Done!
Some things to note:
No custom formatting will be preserved during the export.
Only text will be exported. It means that features like Cloze are supported as well, while pictures and Image Occlusion are not.
Backing up your decks
For backup, we specifically created a new file format so that we can preserve as much information as possible. Even including your learning progress!
This time, when exporting a deck, choose OFC format instead. Unlike CSV, it can save your cards with images, Image Occlusion and all customization that you've added. You can also choose if you want to save your Learning progress as well.
Since the file may contain a lot of information (depending on your number of cards/decks and media stored in them), it may take some time to be exported but don't worry!
Once the file is ready, the download link will be sent to the email that you've entered so make sure it's the correct one!
The file will be stored on our servers for only 24 hours, so make sure to download and save it in a safe place asap.
Some things to note:
Only the decks created by you can be exported. Unfortunately, this means no support for Imported or Duplicated decks
if you export a main deck, all its subdecks will also be included.
