Share Decks

Discover how to share your Anki Pro decks with peers or students, enhancing collaborative learning opportunities

Updated over a week ago

Anki Pro's feature brings a fresh approach to collaborative learning.

Roles

This feature introduces three key roles: Owner, Editor, and Viewer.

  • Owner: The creator of the deck with full control over it, including the ability to assign roles to others.

  • Editor: Assigned by the Owner, Editors can add, edit, and delete cards within the shared deck.

  • Viewer: Users assigned as Viewers can study the cards in the shared deck but cannot make any changes to it.

How It Works

Invitation Link

To share a deck, the Owner generates an invitation link and shares it with others. When users join using this link, they are automatically assigned as Viewers. However, the Owner can promote them to Editors if needed. If the invitation link is disabled, new users won't be able to join, but it won't affect those already studying the deck.

Applying Changes

Any changes made by the Owner or Editors in the deck are automatically applied to all users studying it.

Sharing Sub-Decks

Owners can only share the main deck. However, all sub-decks within the main one are automatically shared with other users. It's not possible to share only a sub-deck. If a shared deck becomes a sub-deck, access for all users is lost.

Sharing Limitations

  • Imported decks can't be shared at the moment, but we're actively working on a solution!

  • You can't share a sub-deck directly; you'll need to either share the main deck or make it independent by moving it to "My Decks".
